ECHT Journey to Berlin, Germany - enjoy guided tours to chateaus, museums and galleries

Journey for the curious mind. See Europe differently, accompanied by local specialists. Experience destinations that tell a story. Understand more about European destinations with history-, cultural- and architectural background information informal during the trip, or -if desired- during lectures in our ECHT lounge in Pittsburgh to prepare for the trip in advance. You will travel with like-minded travelers and subject matter specialists, we pick business class flights and privately owned boutique hotels or luxury hotel offerings in historic buildings.

We organized already several journeys to Berlin, Germany. In the last two centuries, Berlin rose from the capital of a kingdom to the capital of the German empire in 1871, survived defeat in World War I, raging inflation in the 1930s, the rise and fall of the Nazi party, 40 years of cold war in a divided city and the fall of the Berlin Wall and Communism in the East itself. On a five-day journey accompanied by local ECHT experts, trace the epic story of Berlin to the amazing city with its vibrant life it is today.

Our last journey was called "The Fall and Rise of a City". The next journey will focus on cultural highlights:

While the young art scene in Berlin is vibrant, Berlin traditionally has many outstanding museum collections. Enjoy the established and discover the new. The ancient Egyptian Nefertiti found a beautiful home in the Neues Museum, which is located in one of the most exiting museum ensembles in Europe - the Berlin Museum Island. The Neues Museum is an example of fates of architecture in Berlin; build in 1843 by August Stüler, heavily damaged during the bombing of Berlin and surviving the communist east Berlin times as a ruin, it is now renovated by David Chipperfield with a remarkable concept. Experience and the Old National Gallery in East Berlin and the New National Gallery in West Berlin. Consider the citie´s considerable private collections of Art Noveau and Jugendstil, Expressionism, the Bauhaus and many more. Northern German Baroque architecture left some traces, and in Potsdam we will visit chateaus build by Frederick the Great of the Roccoco period, together with Max Beckmann´s new collection in the Museum Barberini. In between these places, Berlin shows beautiful landscape parks, modeled in the time of Romantic. As well as architecture from key periods, including the expressionism of the early 1900s and the Bauhaus architect work.

According to your preferences we will arrange a concert, for example in the Berlin Philharmonie hall, an architectural gem build by Hans Scharoun in 1956, or a visit to one the three opera houses in Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Komische Oper, and Deutsche Oper.
